NAVY AMBITIONS

I've always found that the color green can work with just about anything. Take flowers as an example, they all come in every color of the rainbow yet they have a green stem, and still manage to be beautiful to the eye (insert explosion emoji #mindblown).

A couple weekends ago I attended my first wedding for 2016, which is a great reason to get dressed up. You always want to put your best foot forward at weddings, so I wanted to strike a balance between being appropriately dressed and looking unique enough to stand out. With the South Coast Botanical Garden as the setting, I juxtaposed myself in a modern style navy suit with the organic greens of nature. I typically distance myself from suits but the the lack of lapels suckered me in. Cheers to the newlyweds Myles & Tiffany!

WHO'S A GOOD BOY?

There is saying in Hollywood, "never work with children or animals," with that said meet my puppy, Pixel Bear! Chester mentioned these picturesque stairs next to a coffee shop called Alfred Coffee in Silverlake which serves Stumptown (YUM! My favorite!). With puppy in tow and an all black err thang outfit, why not shoot some photos?

  • BASIC BLACK TEE
  • DESTROYED BLACK JEANS
  • SHOES - ADIDAS TUBULAR X
  • BAG - GOYARD

MINIMAL EFFORT

Why is minimalist fashion hard to find in larger sizes? It's twice as hard for men of size! While I tend to gravitate to the simplicity of fine lines it seems I always source my outfit pieces from the plus size women's section! Whether people are referring to the more "casual" kind of minimal, or the edgy clean lines "upscale" look, this market is underdeveloped. Maybe I should start making my own clothes again!

WHAT I'M WEARING:

  • LONG VEST - F21 PLUS SIZE WOMEN
  • BASIC GREY SHIRT - F21 MEN
  • LEATHER GAUCHOS - ZARA WOMEN
  • SHOES - LEATHER CHUCK TAYLOR CONVERSE

90's Vibe

Growing up in the 90's, I get very nostalgic wearing my Adidas track jacket. These have recently been re-surging in people's wardrobe with the rise of street style and the athleisure trend. I won't forget to mention my style icons Pharrell Williams & Gwen Stefani (B-A-N-A-N-A-S) rockin' this three stripe athletic bomber, it's the perfect piece for cool spring evenings! Paired with my staple joggers and a basic tee along with Adidas Tubular X completed my "easy like Sunday morning" look!

WHAT I'M WEARING:

Fur Monster Inc. 3D

Since I didn't get a chance to wear this faux fur coat that I found on eBay during the winter time, and I wasn't going to wait a whole year to share my fabulous find, so I ventured to DTLA to shoot this piece so  I can put it away along with my winter-ish clothing. Paired with a black basic tee and dark denim pants with a leather harness to finish my rebellious look.

Prints Charming

Wearing head-to-toe prints may seem like a fashion no-no, but I'm hear to tell you that you can, and should do it. Coordinates were popular back in 60's and started making there rounds into Women's fashion for the past three years. While women have many options for this trend, the options for men is very limited. That is why when I saw this set at H&M I had to get it. Paired with this look is parka from H&M Trends that I go 4 years ago that I'm still in love with today.

WHAT IM WEARING:

  • PARKA - H&M TRENDS
  • TOP - H&M
  • BOTTOM - H&M

Trenches & Alleyways

Long, short, beige, black, Burberry, or not. A trench coat is a timeless and versatile piece of clothing that remains a staple to have in your closet. While I aspire for a Burberry trench that runs in the upwards of $700 my broke self will need to settle for something less... way less. That is why I'm proud to announce that mine was only $7.00!!! (Disclaimer: I'm going off tangent) So whenever I drive by any thrift stores my usual reaction is to keep on driving, especially if it's a Salvation Army, their "we want the gays dead" mantra really kills my shopping vibe, but every now and then, my heart skips a beat and I know there is something in that store that is beckoning at me! Sometimes it's a vintage tweed Givenchy sports coat or a Vintage Lanvin blazer or other times it's a Vintage London Fog trench coat "like I have ESPN or something!" Whatever the case, I highly recommend getting a trench coat if you have a chance, your closet will thank me later!

WHAT I'M WEARING:

  • TRENCH COAT - VINTAGE LONDON FOG (THRIFTED)
  • SWEATER - PRIVATE PARTY purchased at Love Culture
  • DENIM BIKER JEAN - H&M
  • DESERT BOOTS - STEVE MADDED

Camel Taupe

Modern day bravery by leaving your house in a monochromatic outfit that is not black! Had a bit of fun by using different textures to achieve this look.

WHAT I'M WEARING:

  • KNIT SWEATER - COTTON ON
  • LEATHER SHORTS - ZARA
  • SHOES - MARK NASON FOR SKECHERS
  • SUNGLASSES

Mix & Match Gingham

It's rare you will find me dressed in  color because I'm a firm believer in all black everything,  but sometimes I do venture out of the darkness and incorporate a pop of color into the look, if you consider dark tan a color. BTW who casually hangs out under a tree, besides me or Buddha?

WOOLIN' AROUND

Being on the shorter 5'7 side of things, finding clothes is THE constant struggle (duh!) Is this shirt too long? Are these pants or clam diggers? Will these sleeves reach my wrists?
Proportion is something I constantly struggle with because at the end of the day, I simply don't care. If I like it, I put it on and wear the hell out of it. End of story. While there are cuts and silhouettes that are more flattering on myself than others, I care more about creating an effect or story with what I'm wearing than wasting time thinking about how close together my thighs are or if I look frumpy. It's important to dress for yourself and not for other people. If you feel comfortable in your own skin it will show through all your sartorial choices. When confidence is the key piece you are wearing, you can pull off anything. YASSS! 😊

WHAT I'M WEARING:

  • H&M LONG CARDIGAN (WOMEN'S PLUS SECTION)
  • COTTON ON SWEATER
  • ZARA JOGGERS
  • ADDIAS

Join The Dark Side

Growing up with a unique name, the common response when I introduced myself as "Darv" would be "like Vader..." referring to Darth Vader the worst Sith Lord ever or possibly the greatest Jedi Knight [insert disappointed face emoji], so naturally my obsession grew to that of love for the character. My long list fandoms help inspire my sartorial choices and BLAH BLAH BLAH. =) #firstblogpost
